7/02/2002 12:00:12 AM|W|P|Christine|W|P|Today was just a brief meeting to go over the surgery procedures and what to expect. Dr. Emery told mom the surgery will take about two hours and then I'll be in recovery for a half hour before they move me to Peds. I will definitely be in the hospital at least one day, possibly two. It depends on how I am eating and getting along with the restraints. I will have the logan's bow over my lip for about three weeks as well as the restraints on my arms. I will go back to the hospital about four or five days after the surgery as an outpatient so that Dr. Emery can remove the stitches. Once the stitches are removed, Dr. Emery told mom to massage my lip a few time a day for quite a few months, even up to a year. This will help the lip heal and the scar look better. Dr. Emery told mom that she should expect to take about three weeks off of work. He said by then we will be able to remove the restraints and I should pretty much be back to my old self again..just with a new lip. We made an appointment for the surgery for August 20th at 7:30am. Dr. Emery's nurse is going to schedule it with the hospital and then send us the registration and pre-surgery materials.
