They have a little play room with a play house and lots of toys. But after about 10 minutes that got a little boring. The dentist's office is in an old house and there are stairs right by the front door. You know how I like to explore. I really, really wanted to go up those stairs, but mom was being so mean and wouldn't let me. I threw a huge fit. Screaming, kicking, telling mom to "go away," but she wouldn't let me go. Finally, they called my name and I went back to meet the dentist. He was very nice. I laid across mom's lap and put my head in Dr. Kelly's lap. He brushed my teeth and counted them all. He said everything looked good. He told mom that I have an extra tooth and he thinks it's an extra front tooth. That's the tooth that is growing in sideways. Dr. Kelly said it is very common for a kid born with a cleft to have an extra tooth. Right now it's not hurting anything and he's not going to do anything about it. But he did say in the future the orthodontist may pull the tooth. In fact, since he's pretty sure it's a front tooth, the orthodontist will more then likely pull the tooth when my permanent ones come in. But for now I'm just getting cleanings every 6 months like my siblings.|W|P|109302433515087145|W|P|My First Dentist Appointment|W|P|beanfamily@gmail.com5/10/2004 06:00:24 PM|W|P|Christine|W|P|It's my birthday month which means I have loads of doctor's appointments again. It's been a year since I've seen Dr. Emery and I almost forgot who he was. I was pretty restless at my appointment. I wanted to explore every inch of the office to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Dr. Emery's nurse gave me a whole bunch of stickers. I counted them..."One, Two, One, Two." Wow it was taking Dr. Emery a long time to get in to the room. But finally he arrived. He told us he was very happy with the way my lip is looking, but he still wants to do that small revision he's mentioned at the last few visits. He said I'm old enough now that the anesthesia won't bother me too much and he can do the surgery any time we feel ready. We figured now is as good a time as any, so we went ahead and scheduled the surgery for June 24th. Dr. Emery said this will be outpatient surgery, so I can go home the same day after surgery. Dr. Emery took a few more pictures of my lip for my file. I was pretending to talk on mom's cell phone so I sat pretty still for that part. But when mom was scheduling my surgery I got adventurous again. I went back in to the room and found that camera. I was trying to figure out how to take a picture of myself when mom so rudely took the camera away from me. She was muttering something about me getting a job to pay for the camera if I broke it...blah, blah, blah. I was just trying to have some fun. Mom and dad were a little concerned about my teeth. My two front teeth are a little off-centered and mom noticed my tooth on the left side of my two front teeth is coming in sideways. Dr. Emery referred us to Dr. Kelly, the Pediatric Dentist on the Cleft Lip and Palate Team. So we are going to see him on May 17th. I had my two year physical scheduled on the 14th, but mom resecheduled it for the 28th so we can do my pre-op physical and two year checkup at the same time. Just like last time, the pre-op physical has to be within 30 days of the surgery.|W|P|109302428484648263|W|P|Two Year Old Checkup|W|P|beanfamily@gmail.com
